The largest living turtle in the world is the leatherback sea turtle. It can reach approx. 2 meters (6.5 ft) in length, while the heaviest recorded one weighed around 650 kg (1,430 lbs). However, millions of years ago in the North American seas, lived a much bigger turtle. It was twice as long as the leatherback sea turtle and could weight 2 tons / 4400 lbs. (at that time, a lot of things were XXL ;)). Nevertheless, Archelon ischyros could resemble the modern giant turtle in many ways.
