Group visits

Best day ever

MOI offers unforgettable ready-made and customizable experiences for students, travelers, scouts, or whoever you’re bringing.

Tour groups

Pre-scheduled tour groups of 15 people or more qualify for a reduced admission rate of $12/person. Guided tour cost is dependent on duration and group size.

Student and scout groups

With MOI’s Student Ticket Initiative, the museum offers sharply discounted admission rates for many different types of student groups. See tab below for more info on chaperone ratios and expectations.

  • School field trips: $5/student
    • (chaperones within approved ratios are admitted free of charge)
  • *Preschool groups: $5/student
    • (chaperones within approved ratios are admitted free of charge)
  • **Homeschool co-ops: $5/student
    • (chaperones: $7/person, limit one per family. Additional adults pay full admission price.)
  • Day care groups: $7/student
    • (chaperones within approved ratios are admitted free of charge)
  • Scout groups: $7/person
    • (includes up to two leaders. Groups with 15 or more scouts may add a third leader at $7. Additional adults pay full admission price.)

*To qualify for the $5 rate, preschools must employ educators certified in Early Childhood Education. Other preschools receive the $7 rate for day cares. Remember, kids under age 4 are always admitted free!

**This discounted rate is intended for homeschool co-ops only. We encourage individual homeschool groups to purchase family memberships. Members have unlimited access to the exhibits, members-only events, and program and store discounts.  MOI would love to help you make meaningful curriculum connections and foster a culture of learning.

The Student Ticket initiative is possible in part thanks to the Gladys E. Langroise Advised Fund within Idaho Community Foundation.

Busing and parking

Free parking, including general, ADA, and bus parking, is available. Check out our general parking map and bus loading and parking map.

Busing grants

With our Student Transportation Initiative, educators from outside the Idaho Falls area may apply for grants to alleviate the costs of bus transportation for school field trips. These grants will be awarded subject to the availability of funds from generous supporters.

This is possible thanks to a generous grant from the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation.

Official chaperones are required for all student and scout groups. Chaperones ensure that students follow our outlined Museum Manners during their visit. We ask that student and scout groups provide chaperones based on the following ratios:

  • Grades Pre-K to 5: at least 1 chaperone per 6 students
  • Grades 6+: at least 1 chaperone per 10 students

Groups that do not provide sufficient chaperones will be charged $15 for each MOI staff member that must be added in order to reach the appropriate ratio to direct student behavior.

Enhanced field trips

MOI offers an enhanced field trip experience including hands-on learning and time to explore. For only $1 more per student ($6/student total), this program offers a rotation-based experience, including two STEM lessons based on Idaho state standards, taught by professional educators, and relevant to an exhibit on display. MOI will also create a custom schedule for your visit so each chaperone knows where to go and what to do. Personalized tours from museum staff are also included as an option.

Note: Enhanced field trips must be booked at least two weeks in advance and are subject to staff availability.

Museum manners

Teachers and chaperones, please read through our outlined Museum Manners for School Groups or Museum Manners for Non-School Groups before your visit.

School memberships

MOI offers school memberships to any public or private area school to help build a culture of lifelong learners, supplement curriculum, and help teachers and students dive deep into project-based and place-based learning. With a membership, schools may save on scheduling multiple field trips per year and receive special access to certain MOI programs.

Fantastic!! I’m not a history person, but really enjoyed this place. Just when you thought you’d seen it all, there was another room or level to explore. Highly recommend adding this as a place to see.
