Q: Explain what you do at the museum in 20 words or less.

Shannon: I get to take care of our wonderful and dedicated members and donors!

Q: What’s a museum-related accomplishment that you’re particularly proud of?

Shannon: I’ve only been here about a month and a lot of it has been getting myself up to speed, but I’m proud of planning and executing my first member mingle!

Q: What do you do for fun?

Shannon: If I am being completely honest, my favorite activity is being a raft princess. I love making my husband row me down the river and then act like I can’t hear him when he asks me if I’m ready to learn how to row…

Q: What would you do for a career if you weren’t doing this (and if money were no object)?

Shannon: I would open my own boutique with a combination of ethically made clothing and housewares. Think: Anthropologie, but fair trade.

Q: What’s the weirdest / most interesting past job you’ve had?

Shannon: I don’t know if the role itself was that weird/interesting, but I used to work for a food co-op where the people-watching was top notch. I once had a customer ask me if their emotional support animal was allowed into the store, while it was already in the store, sitting on their shoulder…squawking…

It was a macaw.

Q: Name a setback in your life that has ended up being a good thing.

Shannon: Moving to Idaho!  I had a semi-existential crisis, left a job in another state and moved back in with my parents up north. Soon after, I landed a great job, met my best friend and then married him a few years later! Now we have the cutest daughter, the cutest dog, and are 100% biased towards both of them.

Q: What’s something – large or small, useful or not – that you’re really good at?

Shannon: Remembering really weird details.  Can I remember what I learned in stats class in college? Definitely not.  Can I remember what type of dress my older brother’s acquaintance who I never met wore to prom in 2004? You betcha. It was light blue, taffeta, and had sequins. I’ll spare her name in the event that someone from Middleton High School reads this.

Q: What were you like in high school?

Shannon: Outgoing, mediocre at sports, obsessed with jam bands AND screamo (what a combo), and very into choir.

Q: What’s your favorite book, movie, and TV show?

This is like asking someone what their favorite song is. Ugh.

If I had to choose, I’d say my current favorite book is currently Beneath A Scarlet Sky. In the last few years I don’t know if I’ve read anything that’s brought me to tears quite like that did. Favorite movie is probably anything produced by Mel Brooks, and favorite TV show…Grey’s Anatomy? I don’t know if it’s actually my favorite, but I’ve watched it more times than I should admit.
