Haunted History Tour FAQs

General questions

When is this year’s Haunted History Tour?
This year’s tour takes place the last two Fridays and Saturdays of October – the 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th, from 7:00 until around 9:00pm.
When do Haunted History Tour tickets go on sale?
Haunted History Tour tickets go on sale on Friday, September 29, at noon for Museum of Idaho members, and Sunday, October 1, at 12:01am for the general public. In past years, the tickets have usually sold out within the first day.
How much are Haunted History Tour tickets?
Tickets are $35/person, which includes hors d’oeuvres and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, followed by a walking tour of approximately two hours. All of the proceeds from Haunted History Tours go straight back to the museum to provide additional educational programs for East Idahoans. Additional beverages for purchase may be available at one tour location.
Can I buy tickets at the museum?
All ticket purchases are through the museum’s website only.
Which buildings will be on the tour this year?
We’re not telling! But we will tell you that three of the buildings are brand-new to this year’s tour, and the fourth will provide a very different experience than in years past. We’ll spend good time in each one and explore little-seen back rooms and basements as applicable. The material in the stories is largely new this year as well.
Are kids allowed on the tour?
Due to the nature of some of the establishments we’ll be visiting, all visitors on this year’s tour must be 21 or over. Sorry, no exceptions.
Are the stories true?
Yes! Museum of Idaho staff perform meticulous research to ensure that the stories you’ll hear from your tour guides are documented and accurate. That said, the tour also includes actors who will provide their own interpretation of the factual history, and the tour also contracts with a medium and a ghostologist. The museum cannot independently vouch for their findings, but we enjoy working with them and learning their perspectives! You’ll be able to tell what’s generally accepted historical fact and what isn’t.
Will it be scary?
That depends. If you mean “will someone jump out at me with a chainsaw?” then no. There are no jump-scares. However, you will explore some creepy places in the dark and learn about actual sordid things that took place there and throughout downtown Idaho Falls many years ago. Sometimes the truth is scarier than any fantasy…
Will I be able to navigate the tour with my physical limitations?
The tour includes walking around a mile total, outdoors in the dark, up and down stairs, and across unlevel terrain – all spread out over about two hours. Some stops will have no available seating or restrooms. However, we will stop and stand frequently. Unfortunately, portions of this tour are not ADA accessible. You are your own best judge.
Is this connected to the “Ghost Walk Idaho Falls?”
No.
I attempted to buy tickets and some were still available, but IT problems prevented me from purchasing them. Can you help?
We’ll do our best. Send an email to info@museumofidaho.org and tell us what happened, and we’ll get on it by Monday, October 2.
I didn’t make it in time to buy tickets and now they’re sold out. Is there a waiting list?
Yes. Send an email to info@museumofidaho.org and note the number of tickets you would like and your preferred date(s) and we’ll add you in the order that we received your request.

I am logged in as a member and the website says the Haunted History Tour tickets are “out of stock”. What should I do?

MOI members get early access to Haunted History Tour tickets. However, since the tours have a limited capacity, we cap the amount of early-access member tickets at 200.
